Volunteers needed for end of season work at Helping Hands garden
Monday, September 24, 2012 7:44 AM
Volunteers are needed for an end-of-season work day at the helping Hands Community Garden in Huntington.
The work day will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the garden, located on Viking Lane near Huntington North High School. Volunteers will help weed, rake, mulch and help with general maintenance tasks to prepare the garden for cool temperatures.
The community garden, now in its third year, provided vegetables, herbs and other produce for 426 individuals in 155 households this year. That number is up from the 300 people served in 2011.
The garden is also used in nutrition education programs offered by the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County and Purdue Extension's family nutrition assistants.
For more information, contact the Huntington County office of Purdue Extension, 358-4826.
