Anyone who wants to vote in the Nov. 6 election has until Tuesday, Oct. 9, to make sure they're registered.
Voters must be United States citizens, must be 18 by the date of the general election and must have lived in their precinct for at least 30 days before the election.
Anyone currently serving time in jail may not vote; they must re-register after being released from jail.
Anyone who has moved or has had a name change must also re-register.
Voter registration forms are available in the Huntington County Clerk's office, located on the second floor of the Huntington County Courthouse, or online at www.indianavot ers.com. Forms obtained online must be mailed to or dropped off at the clerk's office.
Anyone who is registering to vote for the first time must provide identification such as a valid photo ID, current utility bill, bank statement or government document showing the name and address of the voter.
Those who are not sure if they are registered to vote, or if their registration is up to date, can check their status on the same website, www.indianavot ers.com, or by calling the clerk's office at 358-4820.
While newly-registered voters will receive a card from the clerk's office listing their polling place, that same information is also available on the website. The website also lists the voter's districts for various offices.
Absentee voting will begin on Monday, Oct. 8, outside the Huntington County Clerk's office on the second floor of the Huntington County Courthouse. Absentee voting hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The office will be open for absentee voting on two Saturdays before the election - Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 - from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.
Absentee voting at the clerk's office will continue until Monday, Nov. 5, at noon.
Anyone who wants to vote an absentee ballot by mail must apply for a mail ballot no later than Oct. 29.
Regular voting will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at polling places throughout Huntington County.
