Dr. Duane Hougendobler, a member of the Parkview Physicians Group, is the recipient of the Dr. R. B. Peare and Dr. John B. Kay Excellence in Healthcare Award for 2012.
The award recognizes contributions to excellence in local health care and is named in memory of two Huntington physicians who were instrumental in advancing area health services and in establishing the current Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Hougendobler completed his medical education at Indiana University and returned to practice in his hometown. He has provided health care in Huntington County for the past 30 years.
"Dr. Hougendobler has earned the respect and admiration of his medical peers through his dedication and insight into professional issues," says Mike Packnett, chief executive officer of Parkview Health.
Parkview Huntington Chief Operating Officer Darlene Garrett notes that Hougendobler has been an advocate for pediatrics at the highest levels in the health system. Earlier this year, Hougendobler and his staff received national recognition with the Professional Research Consultants (PRC) Excellence in Healthcare Award.
Hougendobler has provided care to generations of youngsters in Huntington County as well as to patients in other countries through his many medical mission trips. He also appears regularly on WPTA's "Noon Extra" segment, answering questions about children's health.
Nominations for the award were accepted from the public, local physicians and hospital staff and board members. A committee consisting of hospital and community representatives selected the recipient.
The award was presented by Dr. Steven Wynder, a member of the Parkview Huntington Hospital board, and Sharon Kay on behalf of her late husband. The announcement was made Oct. 27 during the Parkview Huntington Community Gala presented by Parkview Huntington Foundation.
