State closes Markle rest area
Monday, November 19, 2012 7:22 AM
A rest area along I-69 near Markle has been closed, coinciding with the opening of a new rest area near Auburn.
The Flat Creek rest area, located on the northbound side of I-69 near the Huntington-Wells county line, closed on Thursday, Nov. 15, at noon.
Earlier the same day, the Indiana Department of Transportation opened the new rest area near Auburn, also on the northbound side of I-69. A previous rest area at the same site was closed in 2001.
The $8.2 million Auburn rest area has parking for 80 large trucks and 50 passenger vehicles. It offers multiple restrooms, picnic areas, dog walks and indoor vending areas and will be staffed day and night, seven days a week.
The Auburn rest area is about 32 miles north of the now-closed Flat Creek rest area.
