Shelter donors can earn credits

The Huntington House Emergency Shelter received an award from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) for the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP).

The award offers Indiana state tax credits to eligible donors in Indiana. The organization was awarded $7,240 worth of state tax credits.

Eligible donors can make a contribution to Huntington House and will receive 50 percent of their donation amount as a tax credit for next year.

The minimum donation to NAP is $100. Donations must be made before Dec. 31 in order to receive the tax credits on 2012 Indiana state taxes. A second donation can be made by June 30, 2013, to receive the credits on 2013 Indiana state taxes.

To make a contribution, contact Carolyn Ray, Huntington House shelter manager, at 358-0748, or Lena Smekens, payroll specialist/fiscal assistant, at 260-726-9318, ext. 324. Contributions may also be sent to Smekens at PO Box 1087, Portland, IN 47371, or Huntington House, 576 William St., Huntington, IN 46750.
