Wednesday, November 21, 2012 7:26 AM
The Huntington University Concert Choir will join Columbia City's Blue River Big Band to present "A Jazz Christmas" on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
The evening of big band and jazz music will be presented in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts on campus.
The concert choir, under the direction of conductor Dr. George Killian, will feature several jazz favorites including Christmas titles from the recording group Take 6 such as "Silent Night & Hark, the Herald Angels Sing," the big band arrangement "Gettin' in the Mood for Christmas," the Christmas favorite "Sleigh Ride," and many others.
The Blue River Big Band, made up of several professional musicians from the Columbia City area, will perform Glen Miller's Big Band arrangement of "Jingle Bells" and Nestico's arrangement of "March of the Toys." Featured soloist Dawn Ward will join the band for "Christmas Time is Here" from Charlie Brown's Christmas as well as other selections.
Todd Ward will direct the group.
This is the fourth collaboration between the Blue River Big Band and the HU Concert Choir.
