Law enforcement, Walmart team up for ‘Shop with a Cop’

Members of Huntington County Law Enforcement are partnering with Huntington Walmart for the annual "Shop with a Cop" event for area families.

Law enforcement personnel accompany children from families experiencing financial hardships to the Huntington Walmart to shop for Christmas gifts.

Officers interact with children who may not have had a positive encounter with law enforcement up until now. The partnership between the departments and Walmart makes sure that the children are afforded a more positive holiday experience.

Shop with a Cop will take place at mid-December. Walmart has donated $2,500 toward the project and about $350 in individual donations have been received so far. More donations are being sought and the more collected, the more families in need will be assisted.

Cash and check donations (made payable to Walmart) and Walmart gift cards are being accepted at the Huntington County Sheriff's Department located at 332 E. State St., Huntington.
