Indiana House Page Program accepting apps
Thursday, January 10, 2013 7:25 AM
State Representative Dan Leonard (R-Huntington) invites local students to apply for the Indiana House Page Program.
The program offers students ages 13 to 18 the opportunity to visit the Statehouse and witness a full day of legislative activity.
"It is always great to see so many young people taking advantage of our House Page Program each year," Leonard says. "The program offers students a one-of-a-kind experience to witness their government in action."
Pages will take a tour of the governor's office, the chambers of the Indiana House and Senate and the Indiana Supreme Court.
They will also get the opportunity to watch floor sessions and committee meetings, as well as assisting the legislative staff.
Students who serve as pages are excused from school for the day.
Pages are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Statehouse.
Spots fill up quickly, so interested students should schedule their visit as soon as possible.
Students are asked to include two different dates when they can come to the Statehouse between January and April. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to serve because that is when the House is in session.
There are no pages on Fridays.
To sign up, visit www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/off_cms/page or call 800-382-9841.
