‘Day at the Dentist’ set for Feb. 2
Monday, January 21, 2013 7:42 AM
As part of National Dental Health Month, the Huntington County Dental Society is again sponsoring "Family Day at the Dentist" on Feb. 2.
The society estimates that nearly 4,000 Huntington County families have been served over that time.
"Family Day at the Dentist" is designed as an opportunity for individuals or families without a family dentist to have a free visual evaluation of their oral health and establish a relationship with a local dentist according to Huntington County Dental Society spokesperson Dr. John E. Regan.
The Huntington County Dental Society and the American Dental Association use this month to provide public health information on the importance of good oral health and preventive care.
"Dentistry's message that almost all dental disease is preventable is particularly relevant at this time when the nation is trying to control health care costs," says Dr. Regan.
He indicated that dental disease cannot be cured at this time but it can be controlled if patients would control plaque, reduce or eliminate sweets, use fluorides, apply sealants and see their family dentist at least twice a year.
Family Day at the Dentist is an opportunity for the entire family to start to take advantage of preventive care that is available.
Any family or individual wanting to participate in "Family Day at the Dentist" may do so by calling 356-6119 between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for an appointment.
Huntington County dentists will also be participating in "Dentists With a Heart." This is a national program whereby free dental care is provided to needy individuals on Valentine's Day.
To participate in this program, families or individuals must make an appointment for Family Day at the Dentist.
