Monday, January 21, 2013 8:00 AM
Cheryl Jarrett, office manager of the Huntington County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), was one of four SWCD staff members from throughout Indiana to be recognized with Star Awards by the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
Jarrett received the Star Award during the association's annual Conservation Awards Banquet, which was held as part of the state organization's annual conference Jan 7-9 in Indianapolis.
Attending the conference with Jarrett were Kyle Lund and Andy Ambriole, Huntington County SWCD supervisors.
The Star Award honors SWCD staff members for their outstanding work serving their constituents and conservation partners in 2012.
Jarrett has worked in the local SWCD office for 15 years. She has served on many committees and spearheaded the 2012 Indiana District Employees Association fall conference planning committee. She is vice president of the Indiana District Employees Association and has served as its north-southeast region director. The honor also noted her outreach and networking efforts.
The theme of the conference was "The Power of Conservation: Today's Actions, Tomorrow's Rewards." Guest speaker and author Scott Russell Sanders spoke on "From Consumption to Conservation." Discussion and training in a variety of conservation topics were offered.
District supervisors also had the opportunity to discuss local conservation concerns with state legislators.
