Sixth-grader Holzinger captures spelling bee at Huntington Catholic

Alexi Holzinger, a sixth-grader at Huntington Catholic School, is the winner of the school spelling bee.
Holzinger won the bee in the 11th round by correctly spelling "salinity." She is the daughter of Matthew Holzinger and Andrea Holzinger.
The runner-up is Olivia Henderson, an eighth-grader and the daughter of Jill Henderson and Ronald Henderson.
Holzinger will compete in the county spelling bee on Monday, Feb. 11, at Huntington University.
Participants in the school spelling bee on Jan. 10 were selected through competitions in their classrooms.
Also qualifying for the school bee were:
Fifth grade - Hailee Wilcoxson, Graham Scher, Darcy Williams, Michael Learned and Peyton Rosen.
Sixth grade - Dylan Hasty, Adrien George, Olivia Jablonski and Russell Teusch.
Seventh grade - Ian Broderick, Allan DeLaGrange, Gavin Rosen, Garrett Scheiber and Rees Zay.
Eighth grade - John Hipskind, Sophie Simms, Lindsey Scher and Matthew Warner.
Teachers Michelle Kindle and Denise Zahm served as coordinators of the bee. Judges were teachers Rachel Nelson and Joan Gardner, with Principal Jason Woolard serving as pronouncer.
