Two HCS students earn Optimist Youth Appreciation honor
Sunday, February 3, 2013 10:27 AM
Two students from Huntington Catholic School are recipients of the Huntington Optimist Club's Youth Appreciation Awards.
Olivia Henderson and Audrey Wilcox, both eighth-graders at Huntington Catholic, were selected for the award on the basis of outstanding dedication and service to their school, the community and its citizens. Both were nominated by teacher Samantha Smith.
Each year, the Optimist Club presents the award to two students from each Huntington County middle school and three students from Huntington North High School.
Henderson is an honor student and has participated in spelling bees and in the Christmas choir at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She enjoys street jazz dance, photography, reading, creative writing and running.
Henderson is the daughter of Jill Henderson, of rural Huntington, and Ronald Henderson.
Wilcox, also an honor student, is secretary of the student council and a six-year 4-H member. She serves as a commentator and was part of the Christmas choir at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She plays the piano and enjoys riding horses.
Wilcox is the daughter of Douglas and Amy Wilcox, of rural Huntington.
