Ivy Tech presents first public official honor to State Senator Banks
Monday, March 4, 2013 7:38 AM
Ivy Tech Community College has presented its first Distinguished Public Official Award to State Sen. Jim Banks, R-Columbia City.
Banks was recognized during the institution's 50th anniversary celebration on Feb. 26.
Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder says Banks was honored for his efforts during the current legislative session to make it more efficient and affordable to obtain a college degree.
Among the legislation authored by Banks are bills to make it easier to transfer college credits, require associate degree credits to be counted toward a bachelor's degree and streamline dual college-credit course options for high school students.
"No one has done more for higher education than Sen. Banks," Snyder says. "He understands our students' life issues and is supportive of their efforts to earn a college degree."
