Roanoke council awards contract for sewer replacement

The Roanoke Town Council awarded a contract for the Fourth and Main street project to Earth Construction at the council's meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The project is another phase of a sewer replacement plan in the town that is part of an agreed order by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, said Paul Swain, town superintendent.

The Fourth and Main street project, and the related Canal Street project, will consist of replacing several sewer lines under those streets, and will also disconnect the storm water drains from the sewer lines.
In addition, sidewalks at intersections will be ramped to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Construction will begin in the near future, after related paperwork is completed. Work will be along Main Street between Third and Fourth streets, and also a half-block east of Main Street along Fourth Street.

Earth Construction was the lowest of five bids offered at Tuesday's meeting. The Fort Wayne-based company offered to complete the project for $68,818.50.

Other bids ranged between $84,000 and $124,000.
