When it comes to the dirty business of port-a-johns, Huntington resident Ed Asher knows a thing or two.

Asher, owner of Jiffy Port-a-Jons, recently acquired Ness Excavating's port-a-john rental business.

Asher, who purchased the business from Richard Ness, says the transaction officially goes into effect on March 15.

"I ran a wastewater plant for about 27 years and this is the fifth year of my business," he states. "I'm also licensed as a Class 2 wastewater plant operator through the state (IDEM)."

By acquiring the business, Asher says his inventory has expanded.

"We now have 160 port-a-johns available for rent and three collection trucks," he states. "They can be used for all types of functions, birthday parties, auctions, weddings, private parties and many other events."

Asher adds that six of the units are ADA-approved (American Disabilities Act), equipped with handrails and are larger, which enables them to accommodate wheelchairs.

"We are constantly updating the units," says Asher.

"Each unit comes complete with hand sanitizers and wash stations. Some units are enhanced for weddings or more professional events and include running water using built-in tanks and flush toilets."
