Two Huntington North High School choirs came home with nearly every award offered at the Norwell Invitational on Saturday, March 9.
The Concert Choir and the Varsity Singers, both under the direction of John Wenning, were both named grand champions in their categories.
The 68-member Concert Choir performed three a cappella selections to win its grand champion trophy.
The Varsity Singers' show during the daytime competition entitled the group to perform in the evening finals, earning the grand champion crown after midnight. The Varsity Singers' Stuart Elmore was named best male soloist.
In addition, the show choir earned nods for best choreography, best vocals and best stage crew. The group's professional choreographer is Jason Johnson, of Indianapolis.
The Varsity Brass Ensemble was also named best instrumental ensemble in the contest. The instrumental group is directed by Matt Walter, with accompanist Ann Bostel assisting.
A separate solo competition was conducted throughout the day, with more than 40 singers participating. The top three finalists competed again in the evening, with Varsity Singer member Ana Wenning named first runnerup.
The Varsity Singers will conclude their competition season March 16 at Shelbyville High School.
