4-H sheep and goat ID day is May 4

Identification day for Huntington County 4-H sheep and goat members will be held on Saturday, May 4, at Hier's Park, from 7:30 to 10 a.m.

Youth enrolled in the 4-H Goat project will need to bring market goats to the goat pavilion (pole building immediately south of the Show Arena) for identification and weighing of the animals.

Members with breeding does or pet care entries must complete the enrollment paperwork but do not have to bring the animals to the fairgrounds.

Goat members should take note of the new rule, "If microchips are the intended form of identification for your animals, it is the 4-Her's responsibility to provide his or her own microchip reader at all identification stages.  This includes but is not limited to Goat ID Day, Check-in Day, and Show Day."

4-H Sheep members must bring their market lambs and any non-registered ewe lamb or yearlings to the cattle barns between the hours for the identification process and weighing for entry.

Youth planning to exhibit in the 4-H Goat or 4-H Sheep Shows at the Indiana State Fair must also have their market goats, sheep market lambs and sheep breeding females identified with retinal scans on ID day.

Animal enrollment forms and specific details about the identification days were mailed directly to 4-H sheep and goat members. Members need to contact the Purdue Extension - Huntington County office if they have not received these forms in the mail.

For more information, contact the Extension Office, County Annex Building, 354 N. Jefferson St., Suite 202, Huntington, or call 358-4826.
