Extension office announces scholarship opportunities for area 4-Hers

The Huntington County Extension Office currently has applications available for local 4-H scholarships.

Available scholarships are:

• Janell Marie Saunders Memorial ($1,000) - Open to current high school senior or Huntington County 4-H alumni who completed their final year of 4-H within the past two years. Applicants must be pursuing post high school studies in the area of nursing or a health/medical related field.

• Ray Vanderspool Memorial ($1,000) - Applicants must be a current high school senior.  Selection criteria include 4-H member record, community involvement and academic record.

• Huntington County 4-H (two scholarships for $500 each) - Open to current high school seniors or Huntington County 4-H alumni who completed their final year of 4-H within the past two years.  These scholarships will be presented during the 4-H Fair in July at Hier's Park.

Selection criteria include 4-H member record, with school/community activities considered.

• County 4-H Beef Scholarship ($500) - Applicants must be enrolled in the 4-H beef project for a minimum of five years, including the current year.  The 4-H record and school/community activities are considered in the selection process.

• County 4-H Swine Scholarships (one $500 and one $250) - Applicants must be enrolled in the 4-H beef project for a minimum of five years, including the current year.  The 4-H record and school/community activities are considered in the selection process.

• County 4-H Goat Scholarships (two scholarships for $500 each) - Applicants must be current high school seniors or Huntington County 4-H alumni whose final year of 4-H eligibility was within the past two years. 4-H records along with school/community activities are considered.  Applicants must be in the goat project at least five years including the current year.

• George Guy Memorial - County 4-H Dog ($250) - Applicants must be current seniors in high school and enrolled in the 4-H dog project for a minimum of five years, including current year. The selection criteria include the 4-H record and school/community activities are considered.

• County 4-H Horse & Pony ($250) - Applicants must be enrolled in the 4-H Horse & Pony project for a minimum of five years, current senior in high school and a current active member of Huntington County 4-H Horse & Pony.  4-H record and school/community activities are considered in the selection process.

• Master Gardener (one each for Floriculture, and Garden for $250) - Applicants must be current seniors in high school and been enrolled in the project at least five years, including the current year.  4-H record with school/community activities are considered in the selection process.

Huntington County 4-H members who are eligible may stop by the Purdue Extension - Huntington County Office to pick up an application or print and complete an application found online at www.ces.purdue.edu/huntington.

Applications are due May 31, 2013.
