Health screenings, info, lab services all availalble at Parkview health fair

Parkview Huntington Hospital will hold its annual fall Health and Fitness Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the hospital, located at 2001 Stults Road in Huntington.

Lab services will be provided in the lower-level classrooms and free health screenings, health information and participating organizations will be located in the front lobby area. Valet parking will also be provided at the main entrance.

Lab services provided this year include blood chemistry 17 (calcium, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, creatinine, uric acid, magnesium, iron, albumin, bilirubin, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, AST, alkaline phosphatase and glucose); hemogram (anemia/iron); PSA test (pros-tate blood test); TSH test (thyroid blood test); and Ultra Sensitive (blood test to predict the risk of developing heart disease).

An eight to 12-hour fast is recommended for the Blood Chemistry 17. Water is allowed, and diabetics should stay with their therapy schedule.

All tests must be paid for with cash or a check, and all results will be returned by mail.

Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography Coach, which participated in last year's fall Health and Fitness Fair, once again will be on-site for women to obtain mammograms. The screening mammography aboard the coach is provided by staff from the Breast Di-agnostic Center (BDC). For women who have insurance, the BDC will bill the insurance company directly. For patients who do not have insurance but are able to pay, the BDC offers a reduced rate if payment is made on the day of the screening. Funding is available for women who have no insurance, a high deductible or who lack resources to pay.

Free health screenings will include blood pressure check, body fat analysis, bone density screen, foot screen, grip strength screen, height and weight and pulmonary analysis. Health information provided will include "Ask the Pharmacist" and nutrition.

Other organizations participating in the health and fitness fair include the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Alzheimer's Support Group, American Red Cross, PHH Senior Partners, American Cancer Society, Parkview Home Health & Hospice, Huntington Area Transportation (H.A.T.) and more.
