Garner Volunteerism scholarship to Hoffman
Saturday, June 1, 2013 9:54 AM
Lucas Hoffman, of Huntington, has been awarded the 2013 Heith Garner Volunteerism Scholarship to continue his studies at Bethel College.
The scholarship is awarded through the Huntington County Community Foundation.
Hoffman, a 2011 graduate of Huntington North High School, is majoring in international business. He is the son of Lana and Andy Hoffman.
Hoffman has spent approximately 1,500 hours doing mission work in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Chicago.
In Huntington County, he has volunteered with Blessings in a Backpack, Union Church and HNHS tennis camps. While at Bethel College, Hoffman has volunteered as a mentor to at-risk inner-city youth in South Bend.
Donald and Angie Garner established this scholarship in memory of their son, Heith, a supporter of Huntington North athletics.
Recipients are selected based on their record of volunteer activity during their teen years and demonstration of enthusiasm and dedication.
