Roanoke library to hail century

The Roanoke Public Library will turn 100 years old on Feb. 10, 2010 and is inviting the community to be a part of this celebration.

On Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, the Friends of the Roanoke Public Library will host a free presentation by Michael S. Hart, inventor of eBooks and founder of Project Gutenburg. After the presentation there will be birthday cake and light refreshments for everyone.

A benefit auction will be held on Saturday, April 24. This will consist of a silent auction and a live auction. Light refreshments will also be available.

The Friends group has already begun collecting items for both auctions, including a number of books and other items autographed by the authors.

The community is being asked to help collect or donate new items and/or services and for some "unique experiences" (such as a round of golf on a private course, for example) that can be auctioned off.

If anyone is interested in helping prepare for or partially sponsor either event, stop by the Roanoke Library or call Friends President Sheryl Hart at 672-8978 for more information.
