Apps being taken for Paul Memorial scholarships
Monday, June 10, 2013 8:38 AM
Applications are being accepted for the Steve and Peggy Paul Memorial scholarships.
Application forms are available at the Moose Lodge, 390 Frontage Rd. in Huntington. Applicants must be a Moose member or the child or grandchild of a Moose member.
Completed applications must be mailed to Tony Schmid at the address listed on the form no later than July 17.
The college scholarships will be awarded in August.
The scholarship is named in honor of Steve and Peggy Paul, who were both active in the local Moose Lodge.
Steve Paul was a career firefighter with the Huntington Fire Department and Peggy Paul was a long-time employee of Square D. Both died of cancer in the spring of 2002.
Friends of the couple created the scholarship in 2006. Since then, more than $10,000 has been awarded to local students to further their post-secondary education.
Funds for the scholarship are raised through an annual golf outing and community donations.
This year's golf outing will be held on Sept. 14, beginning at 8 a.m., at Clear Creek Golf Course. Teams can sign up at the golf course or at the Moose Lodge.
The entry fee includes a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, beans and chips, along with beverages.
To become a golf outing sponsor, contact any Moose member or Schmid at 468-2625.
