High school, middle school students invited to enter VFW's essay contests

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2689, Huntington, and the Ladies Auxiliary are again sponsoring the "Voice of Democracy" scholarship competition for high school students, and the "Patriot's Pen" essay contest for middle school students through Nov. 1.

The two contests are open to qualifying students at all public, private, parochial and home schools in Huntington County.

This year's Voice of Democracy essay topic is "Does America still have heroes?"

All submissions must include a typed copy of the work as well as a recording.

The Patriot's Pen essay is to be between 300-400 words on the topic, "When is the right time to honor our military heroes?" Entry forms may be obtained by contacting Jerry Walling at 356-3273, or visiting www.vfw.org.

Both essays are due by Nov. 1.
