Local law enforcement to be part of ‘Click It’ campaign
Monday, June 17, 2013 7:29 AM
Three Huntington County law enforcement agencies handed out 179 seat belt tickets during the 17-day Click It or Ticket campaign, Huntington County Sheriff Terry Stoffel has announced.
In addition, police issued four child restraint citations during the period.
Click It or Ticket is a national seat belt enforcement campaign held annually over the Memorial Day period. Local law enforcement agencies participating in the campaign were the Huntington County Sheriff's Department, Huntington Police Department and Warren Police Department.
The United States Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the national seat belt usage rate has increased from 58 percent to an estimated 86 percent in 2012. The agency says that in 2011 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 11,949 lives nationwide.
"The Click It or Ticket mobilization may be over in Huntington County and city, but that is no excuse to stop using your seat belt," Huntington Police Chief E.J. Carroll says.
