Thursday, June 27, 2013 7:52 AM
A therapy group for adults who are addicted to alcohol, prescription drugs or street drugs began meeting on Tuesday, June 25, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
The Chemical Dependency Intensive Outpatient Therapy Group will meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for six to eight weeks. Other locations and times are available.
A licensed therapist will conduct the sessions and provide weekly education for family members or significant others.
Topics to be addressed include the disease of addiction and recovery concepts; triggers, relapse prevention and coping mechanisms; and Twelve Step programs and sponsorship.
Follow-up care will be provided free to those who successfully complete the program. Participants will be referred to specialists for individual care, when needed.
The confidential group is open to chemically-addicted adults 18 and older, including those with a co-existing psychiatric diagnosis.
