VFW Auxiliary earns natl. honor for 80th year

The June 13 meeting of the Laides Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689 was called to order by President Karen Sandlin.
It was reported that donations for Love INC have filled five boxes. A cash donation will also be made to purchase meat for the store.
A letter from national headquarters was read congratulating the auxiliary on its 80th anniversary. A certificate of recognition was included. The auxiliary received a membership award from the district.
The Buddy Poppy chairman reported that donations from businesses and for poppy places exceeded last year's totals. There are 240 plates on display at the post. Buddy Poppy displays for the state convention were shown to auxiliary members.
Volunteers were selected to decorate a chair for a Special Olympics fund-raiser.
The VFW district cookout will be held on July 6 at noon a the VA in Marion. The next auxiliary meeting will be held on July 11 at 6 p.m. A Fifth District meeting will be held on July 13 at 4 p.m. at Post 1552, in Alexandria. The VFW national convention will be held July 20-25 in Louisville, KY. School of Instructions will be held Aug. 10 in Indianapolis.
Sandlin closed the meeting according to ritual.
