Auxiliary Unit awards scholarships to eight local students

The Roanoke American Legion Auxiliary Unit 160 recently awarded scholarships to eight students.

The students were recognized for their high school achievement during the latest meeting of the auxiliary.
During the meeting, the students reported on which schools they would be attending later this fall.

The scholarship awards totaled $2,800.

In other business, the auxiliary members discussed plans for a benefit Bake Sale and Hog Roast set for Saturday, July 20, beginning at 3 p.m.

This event is being sponsored by the Legionnaires, Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion.

Anyone interested in contributing to the bake sale should have the items to the Post by noon on the day of the event.

The Legion is located at 1122 N. Main St., in Roanoke.
