CF Industries’ safety record stretches from 1972
Monday, July 15, 2013 7:47 AM
The Huntington Terminal of CF Industries is celebrating a safety record stretching back to 1972, when the facility opened.
On Feb. 27, employees of the local terminal completed 15,000 consecutive days without a lost time incident.
The employees at the terminal have not had a lost time accident since the facility opened more than 41 years ago.
Representatives of U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly's office, the Indiana Department of Agriculture, the Indiana Department of Labor, and the city of Huntington were on hand Tuesday, July 9, at the Cottage Event Center, in Roanoke, to help employees of the Huntington terminal and other executives and employees of CF Industries celebrate the safety milestone.
The Huntington Terminal was recognized as the ninth of CF Industries' 22 distribution facilities to reach the 15,000 Safe Days milestone.
"As we manufacture and distribute crop nutrients that help feed the world's growing population, CF Industries' highest priority is the safety of its employees, neighbors and communities," says Huntington Terminal Superintendent Brad Gordon. "Getting our employees home to their families safely every day, which we have done here in Huntington for the past 41 years, is the most important part of my job."
In December 2010, the Huntington Terminal was re-certified as a STAR site by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program administered by the Indiana Department of Labor. STAR status is OSHA's highest safety and health honor through the Voluntary Protection Program.
The terminal, which is operated 365 days a year, stores nitrogen fertilizer and distributes it to wholesale suppliers and retailers in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
