The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA is participating in the Healthways SilverSneakers Fitness Program, the nation's leading exercise program for active older adults.

SilverSneakers participants are offered specialized exercise classes, health education and social programs. The goal is to help active older adults maintain good health, reduce health care costs and lead an active, independent lifestyle.

SilverSneakers offers opportunities to strengthen friendships, increase mental sharpness, provide social activities and wellness seminars and use the entire YMCA facility.

SilverSneakers has over 1 million members nationwide. To join SilverSneakers bring a health plan ID to the front desk of the YMCA.

Classes available are:

• SilverSneakers Classic (independence through strength training, balance challenges, stretching, endurance and coordination) - Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m. or Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

• Water Fitness - Monday through Friday, 8-9 a.m. or 9-10 a.m.

SilverSneakers members are invited to a Harvest Party on Oct. 31, from 10:30 to noon. Chili will be served.
