Roanoke Kiwanians are collecting pop can tabs

The Roanoke Kiwanis Club is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.

In recent years, the club went to Indianapolis to prepare and serve breakfast to family members who are staying at the Ronald McDonald House while their child is being treated at Riley Hospital. The club decided that this year, it would collect pop tabs instead.

The price of the tabs ranges from 40 cents to 80 cents per pound. In 2008, $78,000 was raised for the house. The club's goal is to collect one million tabs, which is equivalent to 1000 pounds.

Points of collection will be at the Roanoke offices of Bippus State Bank and National City Bank or they may be sent with students to Roanoke Elementary. Other collection points are to be added in the next few weeks.
