Local woman serving as intern for state sen. majority caucus
Monday, February 17, 2014 7:23 AM
Chelsea Heiney, of Huntington, is serving as an intern for the Indiana Senate majority caucus during the 2014 leigislative session.
Heiney is a graduate of Huntington North High School and is the daughter of Greg and Marci Heiney. She is currently a senior at Indiana University, Bloomington, studying political science.
As a page intern for the Senate Majority Caucus, Heiney assists all 50 senators in coordinating page visits.
Pages are students between the ages of 12 and 18 who visit the Statehouse to assist their hometown senator with legislative tasks as they learn about the lawmaking process. Heiney accompanies pages throughout the day and educates them about government, legislation and policy.
"I am so excited to work with the senators and help make an impact with the students in the page office who choose to come to the Statehouse to learn about the governmental process," Heiney says.
Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by March 14.
