Roanoke Kiwanis set fish fry, rose sale, scholarships

The Roanoke Kiwanis Club will host its annual fish fry fund-raiser at the Roanoke American Legion Post 160 on Friday, March 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 pm.

The Legion is located at 1122 N. Main St. on the north side of Roanoke.

Tickets are available from any Roanoke Kiwanis member, by calling Mike Gibson State Farm at 672-2951, or at the event. Children under the age of 6 are free with a paid adult.

Upcoming events for the group include selling roses by the dozen in honor of Administrative Assistant's Day, which is being celebrated on Wednesday, April 25. The roses will be available in red, yellow, or pink and will be delivered in a vase by Kiwanis members anywhere within Huntington or southwest Allen counties.

To purchase roses, contact John Nelson at kiwanis.questions@ gmail.com.

The Roanoke Kiwanis recently elected a new president for 2014. Rick Hartley assumed the helm from the outgoing president, Tinisha Weigelt.

The Roanoke Kiwanis will award a total of at least two $500 scholarships to high school seniors who live in Jackson Township, attended Roanoke Elementary School and are planning a course of post-secondary study.

Scholarship applications can be picked up at the Huntington North High School guidance office or by emailing kiwanis.scholarship@gmail.com. Applications need to be filled out and returned by March 31 to the Scholarship Selection Committee at 423 W. Vine Street, Roanoke, IN 46783.

A personal narrative, copies of transcripts, SAT/ACT scores, and letters of reference are required as part of the application. Any questions can be answered by emailing kiwanis.scholarship@ gmail.com.

The Roanoke Kiwanis meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Roanoke Brethren Church starting at 7 a.m. Individuals interested in joining are invited to attend.
