Varsity Singers win for first time under new director

The Varsity Singers of Huntington North High School, competing for the first time under director Dan Baker, were named overall grand champion at the Northridge High School Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 15.

The HNHS group also swept awards for best vocals and best choreography during the evening finals.

The group had been named grand champion in the large mixed division during preliminary competition held earlier in the day. Also during preliminaries, the Varsity Singers won best vocals, best choreography, best band and best technical crew.

Junior Rhett Long, a Varsity Singers soloist, won the solo competition division. Five other Varsity Singers soloists placed in the top 10.

The Varsity Singers will next compete March 1 at the Chicagoland Contest at John Hersey High School, in Chicago, IL.
