Riverview Middle School students Amara Eckert, Sarah Malone, Nick Scheiber and Connor Mason have been honored by the LaFontaine Arts Council as Artists of the Month for February.
Eckert, a seventh-grader, was honored for her work in communications/RTV (Riverview TV). She is the daughter of Matthew and Heather Eckert, of rural Andrews.
Nominating teacher Chris Husband says Eckert is "a hardworking, creative leader."
"Amara works well with her classmates and shows initiative when things need done," Husband says.
Malone, an eighth-grader, was honored for her work in visual art. She is the daughter of Shawn and Heather Malone, of Huntington.
Nominating teacher Christine Nicholson says Malone "has tremendous talent and work ethic in the arts."
"She really pushes herself to do her best and grow artistically and always produces high quality work with a humble attitude," Nicholson says.
Scheiber, a sixth-grader, is the son of Jim and Jodi Scheiber, of rural Huntington. He was honored for his achievements in choir.
Scheiber has performed in multiple shows at the Pulse Opera House, in Warren, and Huntington University's summer theater camp. He has also performed in several school productions and on the Bluffton stage.
"Nick is a strong leader within his section and in class," nominating teacher Danielle Ellenburg says, calling Scheiber "an accomplished performer."
Mason, an eight-grader, was honored for his achievements in band. He is the son of Halden and Jennifer Mason, of Markle.
Mason has played in the Three Rivers Honor Band at Indiana-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, and earned gold awards in Indiana State School Music Association contests.
