YMCA will host Healthy Kids Day on April 12
Thursday, March 6, 2014 7:54 AM
The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA will celebrate Healthy Kids Day and Spring Family Festival on April 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Open swim will follow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The free community event is open to children and families.
It will include games, physical activities, arts and crafts and entertainment, all designed to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.
"At YMCA's Healthy Kids Day, we are focusing on health and education to ensure fewer children are at an increased risk for childhood obesity and more children succeed in school," says YMCA Spokesman Todd Latta.
"We know that during summer, research shows that kids are more likely to gain weight and fall behind academically than during the school year. Healthy Kids Day is not just a single day of fun, active play and learning - it's a kick off to helping parents get a jump on creating a healthier summer."
