Tera Garretson is the new general manager of the Quality Inn, located at 2820 Hotel Ave. in Huntington.

Quality Inn was formerly known as Northview Inn and Suites.

With the change in name will come about $500,000 in upgrades over the next three years, the hotel's owner, Willie Patel, says.

Garretson is a former front desk clerk of the Huntington Super 8. She left the area and ran a hotel in Missouri before returning to a job in Fort Wayne.

"I just missed family and friends so I put in some resumes and got a position in Indiana as a business administrator," she explains. "But my passion has always been hospitality. I was lucky enough to find this position. I just put in my application and it happened that a week later they were looking for a general manager."

Garretson has several goals for the Quality Inn, including renovation of the lobby and rooms. The hotel boasts a pool area with Jacuzzi and an expanded breakfast for guests.

She also intends to incorporate the standards customers are accustomed to from Choice Hotels.

"I would like to run a great hotel that when customers come in they are greeted like they're just coming home, and they have a great stay, whether it's leisure or coming in town for corporate business," she says.

Garretson also serves on Huntington County's Tourism Board. She resides in Roanoke and has one child.

The hotel will hold an "after-hours" Chamber of Commerce open house in May and the community is welcome to attend.
