The Andrews-Dallas Township Public Library was a hub of activity Saturday morning, March 8, as volunteers moved some 17,000 books and other items from the old section of the library building to an addition that is nearing completion.
The books had to be moved out of the original portion of the building so contractors can complete work on the walls, floor and electrical system in that area.
The volunteers moved books off the shelves, placed them temporarily atop sheets of plastic on the floor, moved the shelves from the old part of the building to the addition and then reshelved the books.
Once the building is complete, bookshelves will occupy the entire first floor of the library, while the basement will house a community meeting room with kitchenette, a smaller meeting room, two restrooms and storage areas. The library will also have a relocated entrance and an elevator.
The library has been closed since early March because of construction and is expected to reopen in late March, with the project expected to be complete by the end of April.
Construction began last September.
