Roanoke council to draft plan for CEDIT expenditures

The Roanoke Town Council discussed crafting an outline for the town's CEDIT plan during its Tuesday, March 18, meeting.

The Huntington County Commissioners require every town council to file a plan detailing how it intends to use CEDIT monies during the year. Clerk-Treasurer JoAnne Kirchner indicated that she would draft an outline for council's next meeting, April 1.

President Dave Tucker suggested that a way to increase the appeal of the town's park employee position would be to give that person the added responsibility of watering flowers in town, thereby increasing the position's pay. Kirchner noted that the employee would be paid out of the street fund, rather than the park fund, for performing that task.

Council passed Ordinance 2014-3, which grants it the ability to take the money obtained from renting out the former library space and place it in a fund that enables it to be used on any town building. The board also approved the rental agreement for the space.

In other business:

• Utility department employee Eric Parker stated that the department would be ready to pick up brush in a few weeks.

• Rob Miller, Republican candidate for Huntington County commissioner, addressed council and said that, if elected, he would attend council meetings during the year in the interests of keeping an open line of communication with Roanoke.
