Applications are now being accepted for scholarships being offered by foundations established through the Huntington County Community Foundation.

Scholarships are:
• Joseph H. Lesh Scholarship
The Joseph H. Lesh Scholarship was established by Mr. Lesh's family in memory of their father, who practiced law in Huntington for many years. The purpose of the scholarship is to support and encourage students who wish to pursue a career in the legal profession.
The scholarship will be awarded from the Joseph Lesh Fund administered by the Community Foundation. To qualify, an applicant must be a Huntington County resident, a Huntington North High School senior or graduate enrolled as a full-time college student majoring in law or other law-related careers. Hunting-ton County residents currently attending law school are also eligible for the scholarship. Past scholarship recipients are also eligible to apply.
Applicants must demonstrate potential for scholastic excellence and indicate a desire to pursue a career as an attorney. Applications for the scholarship are available from the Huntington County Community Foundation office and at the Huntington North High School Guidance Office. The deadline for the application in March 27.
• The Vincent M. Allman Art Scholarship
Mr. and Mrs. John Allman established this scholarship in 1998 in memory of their son. The purpose of the Vincent M. Allman Art Scholarship is to support and encourage students who want to pursue a career in art or as an art educator.
Applicants must be Huntington County residents, Huntington North High School seniors or graduates enrolled in a four-year accredited school majoring in art or art education. Applicants must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (a "B" average).
Scholarship applications are available from the HNHS Guidance Office or the Huntington County Community Foundation office. Completed applications must be received at the Huntington County Community Foundation office by March 27.
• Dorothy M. Coll Scholarship
This scholarship will be presented to a Huntington North High School graduating senior or a full time college student majoring in science. The recipient of this scholarship must be a resident of Huntington County and exhibit financial need.
This scholarship was made possible by Mrs. Coll's creation of a charitable remainder trust with a portion of her estate.
Scholarship applications are available at the Huntington County Community Foundation office or at the Huntington North High School guidance office. The deadline to turn in completed applications to the Foundation office is March 27.
• George A. Bergman and Garnet L. Bergman Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a Warren, IN, resident who graduated from Huntington North High School, Southern Wells High School or Eastbrook High School.
The Bergman Scholarship is specified for Warren residents because Warren was the place the Bergmans called home. Mr. Bergman operated the Bergman Funeral Home, which had been in the family for 100 years. Mrs. Bergman assisted in the business when possible. She was employed by Sears Roebuck & Company and retired from there with many years of service.
Application forms for the George A. Bergman and Garnet L. Bergman Scholarship are available at the Huntington County Community Foundation office or at the guidance offices at the designated high schools. The deadline for returning the completed application to the Community Foundation office is March 27.
• Charles and Wilma Sanger Shuman Family Scholarship
The scholarship is available to Huntington County residents, graduating Huntington North High School seniors, current students at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne and to non-traditional students.
Non-traditional students are those who did not attend college immediately after graduating from high school.
Charles Shuman resides in southwest Huntington County and is a farmer in Huntington and Wabash counties. Mrs. Shuman is recently deceased.
Applicants must be enrolled at a four-year Indiana college or university as a full-time student for the fall semester. Preference will be given to applicants planning to attend the University of St. Francis, Huntington University, Taylor University, Manchester College, Indiana Wesleyan University and Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.0 ("C" average). Preference will be given to students pursuing a teaching career. Business education majors will be given first preference and other education majors will be given second preference. Majors in other fields will be considered.
Criteria for the scholarship are financial need, scholastic achievements, school-related extracurricular activities, community involvement, qualities of character and leadership. Scholarship recipients who successfully complete their college freshman year will be eli-gible to reapply for the scholarships.
Application forms are available at the Huntington County Community Foundation office or at the Huntington North High School guidance office. The completed application must be returned to the Community Foundation by March 27.
• Dave Reeves Athletic Memorial Scholarship
Dave Reeves taught and coached for 26 years in his hometown of Huntington. While coaching track, he developed a love for the discus and shot throwers. He coached both the boys and girls' teams to victories watching his throwers frequent state finals and obtain scholarships. When he died of pancreatic cancer in 2004, the Dave Reeves Athletic Memorial Scholarship was created by his wife, Marsha.
Applicants must be a Huntington North High School graduating senior who was a discus or shot put thrower for the Huntington North Vikings, attending college on a full-time basis.
Application forms are available at the Huntington County Community Foundation office and at the Huntington North High School guidance office. The completed application must be returned to the Community Foundation by March 27.
