Youth Services Bureau accepting nominations for Bailey Award

The Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County is currently accepting nominations for its annual Steven L. Bailey Memorial Award.

This award has been given annually since 1999 to an individual who demonstrates a strong compassion for the youth and families of Huntington County. The nominee should be a person who has made a positive impact in the lives of young people through activities that empower, encourage and support our youth.

"Steve strongly believed everyone has strengths and was willing to provide the support needed for them to reach their fullest potential," says Jan Williams, executive director of the Youth Services Bureau. "Steve was a true youth and family advocate and the recipients of this award have also shared these attributes that Steve lived in his professional and personal life."

Some of the past recipients include Delores Evans, Kent Yost, Roger Vezeau, Sara Landrum, Kent Hoopingarner, Richard Burns and Shelly and Jon Schenkel. This year's recipient was Gloria Wall.

Nominees must be 18 years of age or older; be a positive role model through supportive, encouraging and empowering involvement with youth as a volunteer or employment; and have had an impact on Huntington County youth, particularly those in grades 6-12.

Nomination forms may be requested by contacting the YSB at 356-9681, or 1-800-298-5444. E-mail requests to ysbadm@choiceonemail.com. Information and forms may also be obtained by visiting www.ysbofhuntingtonco.org.

The deadline to submit an application is Dec. 4. The winner will be presented the award at the agency's dinner to be held Jan. 28, 2010.
