Downtown theater to show sets

Sets constructed for "The Sound of Music" will be on display during an open house Friday, June 27, at The New Huntington Theater in downtown Huntington.

The open house begins at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge, but admission is limited to 250 people.

"The Sound of Music," which opens July 8, is the first main stage production to be presented in the theater since it was purchased by Rich Najuch and Joel Froomkin in 2007.

Mike Perkins will serve as moderator for the open house, and Froomkin will explain his plan for the set. The elaborate set for the musical was designed by Froomkin and built by Najuch.

Lauren Lukacek, a professional actress from New York who is filling the role of Maria, will sing during the open house. Audience members will have the opportunity to have their pictures taken on "Maria's mountain."
