Michael Parsons has been named assistant principal and athletic director at Riverview Middle School.

Parsons most recently served as director of curriculum and special education services at the South Bend Career Academy, in South Bend, from 2011 until this year.

Prior to his stint in South Bend, he worked in the Huntington County Community Schools as a special education teacher at Huntington North High School in 2010-11 and as a social studies teacher at Riverview from 2006 to 2010.

Parsons earned a bachelor of Arts in secondary social studies from Taylor University. He also holds a Master of Arts in mild interventions and a Master of Arts in educational leadership and administrative licensure from Ball State University.

"We are pleased to welcome Mr. Parsons back to HCCSC in this leadership capacity and are fortunate to have someone of his background and experience working with our students," says Dr. Tracey Shafer, HCCSC superintendent.

"I am eager and excited to begin working with the students, parents and staff members at Riverview Middle School," Parsons says.

Parsons succeeds Mark Dubois as assistant principal at Riverview. Dubois was named principal of Northwest Elementary School following the retirement of Terry Pierce.
