Boy Scout Troop 130 will hold open house tonight

The scouts of Boy Scout Troop 130 invite families with young men ages 11 to 17 who are interested in Boy Scouts to attend an open house today, Monday, Sept. 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Miller family pond in Huntington.

The entrance to the grounds is located adjacent to the South Broadway Church of Christ, 1105 S. Broadway.

Boys can observe the troop's summer meeting program at the waterfront, and parents can direct questions about the scouting program to Troop 130 parents and leaders. Refreshments will be served.

In the last three decades, Troop 130 has offered young men an outdoor program and an active schedule of rank advancement and merit badge activities.

More than 30 Troop 130 scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, typically with Eagle projects that included hundreds of hours of community service.

Recent adventure trips have included backpacking in Rocky Mountain National Park, whitewater rafting in Colorado, cycling on Mackinac Island, canoeing in Michigan and cave exploring in southern Indiana.

Troop 130 participates in district and council camporees in Fort Wayne's Anthony Wayne Area Council, summer camping programs in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan and council-wide Order of the Arrow activities. Troop fund-raisers help scouts to pay for travel expenses, registration fees and necessary outdoor equipment.

For more information about how to become involved in scouting, email Scoutmaster John Bostel at john.bostel@att.net or Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff Webb at jwebb@hunting ton.edu.

Troop 130 is chartered by Life Church in Huntington, and from October to May the troop meets at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays at the church at 900 E. State St., Huntington.
