Chad Hacker has been named chief of the Huntington Police Department.

Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters announced Hacker's appointment on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Hacker, who named Matt Hughes as his assistant chief, succeeds E.J. Carroll in that position. Carroll, a 21-year veteran of the HPD, retired effective Oct. 1 and has accepted a position with the new Parkview Health police department.

Hacker and Hughes, who both currently serve as detectives within the Huntington Police Department, were set to be officially sworn in today, Oct. 6.

Hacker says he is working on filling additional leadership positions within the department.

Hacker joined the Huntington Police Department in 1999 but has been employed by the town since 1993, when he went to work for the city's water department. He served on the boards of McKenzie's Hope, a child advocacy center, and the Huntington PAL Club.
