Two new officers were sworn in on Wednesday, Feb. 18, as members of the Huntington Police Department.

Ty Whitacre and Ben Whitman fill positions left vacant by the retirement of Bill Richard last August and E.J. Carroll in October. The department’s 32-member roster is now filled, said HPD chief Chad Hacker.

Whitacre and Whitman will report to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at the end of March and will rejoin the HPD in July after completing training.

Whitacre, of Huntington, was active duty military police for five years. He has also worked with Allen County Community Corrections.

Whitman, of Roanoke, previously worked in the special services department at Huntington North High School.
