Parkview Huntington Hospital honored Duane Hougendobler, MD, on Friday, May 8, for his 30 years of service with Parkview Health.

Hougendobler is a pediatrician practicing with Parkview Physicians Group and at Parkview Huntington Hospital

A Huntington native and graduate of Huntington North High School, he earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, in 1981. He immediately returned to his hometown to begin practicing medicine.

“Dr. Hougendobler is a talented pediatrician and has significantly impacted health care in the Huntington community,” says Juli Johnson, president of Parkview Huntington Hospital. “I value the contributions he has provided Parkview Huntington Hospital the past 30 years and his commitment to continually seek further engagement with his patients.”

Hougendobler says his goal is to practice preventive medicine and connect with children to improve their well-being, making his patients smile in the process.

He attributes much of his success to his nurse manager, Lisa Meyer, RN, at Parkview Physicians Group.

“I would not be where I am today without Lisa Meyer,” Hougendobler says. “She has been my guide and brings me back to reality. She is very grounded in the community, which is helpful to understand what people want and expect.”

Hougendobler has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Relay for Life, the Autism Coalition team, Huntington County Child Advocacy Center and McKenzie’s Hope Junior Achievement, various boards at Huntington University and other community initiatives. Hougendobler has served on the Parkview Health board for nine years and on the Parkview Huntington Hospital board.

“I try to keep it as local as I can,” he says. “I eat here, buy here and stay in touch with the town. I appreciate the community supporting me and so I try to give back as much as possible.”
