People living as far as 100 miles away are getting in on the 100th anniversary celebration of a Warren church.

Members of the Warren Church of Christ released 300 balloons as part of the celebration held April 18 and 19.

A card was attached to each balloon, asking those who found them to send a note back to the church telling where it was found.

Responses have come from as far away as Fremont, 77 miles away, and Portage, MI, 105 miles away.

During the two-day celebration in Warren, church leaders opened a copper box that had been placed in the cornerstone when the church was built in 1914-15.

The box contained a Bible opened to the Book of Acts, the original dedication program and photos.

The weekend also included a slide show on the church’s history presented by Ted Fiock and a hog roast at the Knight-Bergman Center.

The Warren Church of Christ was organized in 1899, and the current church building was constructed in 1914-15 at the site of the former Howes Hotel.

The downtown Warren building was dedicated on April 18, 1915.
