The New Hope United Brethren Church in Huntington will honor the ministry of the retiring Lynn and Betty Mefferd on Sunday, May 31, at 9:30 a.m.

The church is located at 2001 Engle St.

Lynn Mefferd has served as the minister of congregational care at New Hope since September 2004. Prior to his part-time ministry at New Hope he was the senior pastor at the Dillman United Brethren Church outside of Warren, Indiana.

His ministry description at New Hope included helping with worship, teaching, hospital and home visitation. He administered “home communion” to all of the shut-in people of the congregation.

Mefferd and his wife chaired the Senior Connection Ministry at the church and he also directed the Stephen Ministry during his tenure at the church. He also started the Telephone Prayer Ministry for the congregation.

The service will conclude with a congregational dinner in honor of the Mefferds. Prior to the dinner and during the meal there will be video presentations and skits highlighting their ministry with the church. There will also be an open mike for people to express their appreciation to the Mefferds.
