Anyone who owns property in Huntington County should have in their hands a notice from the Huntington County assessor's office, listing the new assessed value of that property.

Anyone who has not received a notice of assessment, Huntington County Assessor Terri Boone says, should call her office at 358-4800.

Those who wish to appeal the amount of the assessment have 45 days to file that appeal, Bone says.

Appeals must be filed in writing and must include information supporting the appeal, such as the sale price of the property or comparable properties, listing process, purchase offers or appraisals.

The notices of assessment, which were placed in the mail on Dec. 30, will include the assessed value for the property in 2008 and the property's new assessed value for 2009. The new assessed value is based on sale prices of comparable properties in 2007 and 2008. The assessed value of properties serves as the basis for property tax bills.
