Financial advisor Seth Kimmel says his passion for Huntington led him to recently open his own financial advising firm.

Born and raised in Huntington, the self proclaimed “hometown guy” knew he wanted to live, work and retire in the community.

Kimmel graduated in 2006 from Huntington University, where he double majored in business management and finance. After graduation, he joined a local bank as a financial advisor and built his clientele base.

“I’ve always enjoyed what I’ve done, but I’ve always had the goal to own my own firm to try to work to accomplish my own dreams rather than to work for someone else,” Kimmel says.

Last December, Kimmel decided to pursue opening his own financial advising firm, and he opened his doors for business on June 1.

Kimmel says he’s had three business mentors along the way that have helped him gain expertise in the investment business.

His father, Steve Kimmel, executive director of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce, encouraged him to start investing during his junior year of college. He’s also encouraged him to stay involved in the community, Kimmel says.

Jim O’Donnell, an investment advisor and Huntington University business professor emeritus, was another mentor to Kimmel.

He named Vince Haupert, Huntington University’s vice president for sdvancement, as the best educator he has had in the field.

“Those three gentlemen were influential and crucial in my development as an advisor and as a business man,” Kimmel says.

Kimmel says he wants to see the people of Huntington prosper and succeed in their financial goals.

“My job is to help them be good stewards of the resources they’ve been blessed with,” Kimmel says.

Kimmel says he considers his job to be in the relationship business. He wants to get to know customers to build trust and communication. Then he can help customers understand the objectives, time frames and risk tolerances that come along with financial planning.

He works mainly with investments, estate planning, insurance and education planning.

Kimmel schedules regular customer meetings.

“You don’t plant grass seed and then walk away,” Kimmel says. “There’s ongoing maintenance that needs to go on. It’s the same with clients.”

When he is not in the office, Kimmel volunteers with Junior Achievement, United Way, the Boys & Girls Club and the Huntington Area Recreational Trail Association.

“Creating my own business opens me up to have more resources, whether that be time, or availability or expertise, to continue to provide to those organizations that are vital to our community,” Kimmel says.

Kimmel is available by appointment only and can be reached at 388-9983.  Securities are offered through LPL Financial, member FINRA/SIPC.
